Wu Hanyang (Oliver)
Wu Hanyang (Oliver) is a Counsellor-in-Training currently pursuing a Master of Counselling at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. His work is grounded in a strong academic foundation and guided by a reflective, collaborative, and ethically informed approach to psychological practice.
His therapeutic orientation is primarily based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), complemented by Narrative Therapy. He adopts an integrative and formulation-driven approach, with particular attention to how cognitive patterns, emotional processes, and personal meaning systems interact in shaping clients’ experiences.
Oliver has a particular interest in attachment and interpersonal dynamics. He is interested in exploring how early relational experiences may inform individuals’ expectations of support, emotional regulation patterns, and ways of relating to others. His approach emphasises careful exploration, collaborative meaning-making, and the development of more flexible and adaptive patterns.
Alongside his clinical training, Oliver has developed strong research literacy through his work in cognitive neuroscience, emotion regulation, and interdisciplinary psychological research. He previously served as a research assistant at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences—one of China’s leading research institutions in the field of psychology, with a strong international research presence. This experience has informed his appreciation for evidence-based practice and methodological rigour in clinical work.
He is currently a CBT Certified Clinician (Candidate) with the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, an internationally recognised organisation in CBT training and dissemination. In parallel, he is undergoing formal training in Narrative Therapy with the Dulwich Centre, a key contributor to the development and global teaching of narrative practices. These trainings support his commitment to integrating structured, evidence-informed approaches with meaning-oriented therapeutic work.
Oliver also maintains an interest in the integration of psychoeducation and innovative intervention formats, including the development of structured and creative tools to support self-reflection and personal growth.
